Former Speaker passes away

The city has been robbed of one of its most dedicated representatives of the community who served with passion and humility.

The former Speaker of the Mogale City Local Municipality, Suzen Thupane, has sadly passed away after battling with a long illness.

Mogale City’s new Mayor, Councillor Lynn Pannall, said in a statement that the city has been robbed of one of its most dedicated representatives of the community who served with passion and humility.

“Councillors across the political spectrum will remember her for her kindness and forthrightness,” Mayor Pannall said.

One of the most abiding memories the people will have of Councillor Thupane is that she was a member of the political management team led by the former Mayor, Koketso Calvin Seerane, and delivered several successive clean audits in the municipality.

“We vow to raise the bar in her memory. We will maintain clean and open governance, because residents expect no less from their municipality.

“Although we come from different political backgrounds, I as the Executive Mayor, acknowledge that Councillor Thupane was a very strong and resilient woman who sadly left us during Women’s Month, handing over the baton to other women to continue with the cause of women’s socio-economic empowerment and equality which she championed as leader of the ANC Women’s League. The council extends its heartfelt condolences on behalf of the people of Mogale City to her family, relatives, friends, and her party. May the Lord give you strength through these trying times.”
