One hundred women in tourism
"The journey of a woman consists of the three B's: balls, boobs and brains."
The National Department of Tourism, in conjunction with Travel Massive, hosted a 100 Women in Tourism breakfast at Maropeng on Wednesday 24 August.
The morning served as a networking opportunity for women in tourism, as well as a moment to step back and look at everything that has been achieved on behalf of women.
Sophie Ndaba, who is an industry speaker, although she is best know for her almost 20 years in the role of Queen Moroka in the popular soapie Generations, was one of the speakers for the day. She touched on the importance of supporting one another in the industry, in order to build our local tourism. She also urged everyone to stop pumping money into international tourism, and to start looking at what is in our own back yard.
Things became slightly controversial when Nawaal Nolwazi Mdluli, editor of the magazine Essays of Africa, said “The journey of a woman consists of the three B’s: balls, boobs and brains”. She added that a woman gets her balls through learning and educating herself.
Overall, the morning was informative and served as a great confidence booster, as everyone present was once again reminded about their contribution to the tourism industry.
