Bravado Musical Creations leads young women
We have done research and discovered that about 7 million young girls cannot go to school for a week or more every month.
Women from all walks of life gathered on Saturday, 27 August at the inaugural Lead a Young Woman event, held at the John Martin Primary School in Kagiso, to mentor the girls of Grades 6 and 7 and inspire them with their own experiences.
The event was hosted by Bravado Musical Creations’ Teens Movement as part of their community outreach. “We have done research and discovered that about 7 million young girls cannot go to school for a week or more every month, because they can’t afford to buy sanitary pads. Because we are passionate about the development of young women, we decided to create this event to deal with issues such as personal hygiene during menstrual cycles, self love and the importance of education,” said their Public Relations Officer, Kefilwe Moloi.
Miss Earth SA finalist, Mandisa Mqolombeni; the mobile health project manager from HIVSA, Alex Kayle, and a number of other entrepreneurs joined forces with the Teens’ Movement to make the event a roaring success. Nurse Fikile Dlamini talked to the girls about self love, the importance of making good decisions and having priorities.
“Do not be desperate to be loved. Love God and love yourself,” she said.
One of the teachers, Mrs Puleng Matlawe, also had the opportunity to address her pupils. “The most important thing that I teach the Grade 7 class is that you much ‘achieve before you conceive’,” she said. Mrs Matlawe went on to tell the News how grateful she was that Bravado Musical Creations had chosen the John Martin Primary School for this initiative, because the information they imparted was really valuable to all of the girls.
All the girls who attended were given notebooks and packs of sanitary pads to take home.
“We’d like to thank all our speakers, and our ambassador and MC for doing a spectacular job. Our thanks also go to everyone who donated sanitary pads, to John Martin Primary School for hosting us, to Mama Maphefo for providing the catering and refreshments, and to the Mogale City Local Municipality and the Teens Movement Team for helping us give back to the girls of this school,” said Tsholofelo Diale, the director of Bravado Musical Creations.
The Bravado Musical Creations team aims to host events of this kind on a regular basis, thus helping as many schools as they can.
