Joining forces to create employment

Weco Training Academy has committed itself to helping Sokude Ngeyane fulfill a dream that will create employment on the West Rand.

We will only see a positive transformation in Mogale City if the community works together and in this spirit, the Weco Training Academy has partnered with Unxedo Lombsebenzi with a beautiful twist.

“We found the article about Unxedo Lomsebenzi interesting because we love to partake in nation building. We contacted its founder, Sokude Ngeyane, intending to discuss how Weco Training Academy could add on to what he does,” said Beverly John-Gomes, founder of the Weco Training Academy.

Weco is a registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) that has been providing training and educational courses since the beginning of the year. “Of the four key qualities Google seeks in new hires, the first is cognitive ability or basic problem-solving skills. Critical thinking is all about learning problem-solving skills, and that’s what Weco is trying to provide,”Beverly told the News. The NPO has offered Sokude a seat on their next ABET course, beginning in October, and plans to partner with him in several other ways.

“I am very happy that there is someone who wants to share their skills with me as I share mine with others. I believe that together we can make a difference and I am grateful to Beverly for listening to my vision and giving me her time,” said Sokude.

Unxedo Lomsebenzi (which means employment assistance) is an initiative that plans to create employment and business opportunities for the youth of the West Rand. The initiative was established in 2002 by Sokude with the aim of providing skills-based training to young people. “I enjoyed a long career in the mining industry but had to resign due to ill-health. When I came back to Kagiso I realised that people are unemployed because they are not skilled, and not because there are no job opportunities, and that is where my dream began,” Sokude told the News.

The two organisations will work together to create employment opportunities in the West Rand and they hope to have a much bigger impact than they would singly.
