Louise Carver to wow the West Rand
The News caught up with Louise Carver to discuss her upcoming performance, and a few things that you may not know about the songbird
Louise Carver and Watershed will be performing at Casalinga in Muldersdrift on 17 September.
The hour-and-a-half performance, dubbed The Return of the Light Concert, will provide a great opportunity for a picnic with the family in the beautiful Casalinga gardens, where the audience will be able to eat and drink while listening to The Coopers, a brilliant collaboration between Louise Carver and Watershed, with musical direction by Clifford Cooper. The News caught up with Louise to talk about her upcoming show, as well as her singing career.
We asked Louise why they had chosen Casalinga as a venue, to which she replied: “Casalinga is exquisite and reminds me a lot of the beauty of the Cape, where I grew up. It is a great venue for a picnic on the grass, and afterwards you can donate the blanket to the SPCA. It will be a great day out for young and old”.

Our next question was “Do you have a favourite underrated destination in South Africa?” She said that Stanford in the Western Cape is her favourite spot.
“It is a hidden gem, with a little river running through the town. They have a bakery, biltong shops and arts and crafts stalls. You could easily drive past it without noticing”.
We then asked Louise to name her favourite international destination. “There are two,” she said, “St Petersberg in Russia and Boston in the United States”.
Louise went on to tell us that she started singing when she was two, and joined the school choir at the age of five. At the age of 15, she started opera lessons, joined her first band and was signed to a record label. She always knew she wanted to sing, and never questioned her decision.
Continuing, Louise said she had several favourite memories of performing, such as when she performed (piano and voice) in Kirstenbosch for three nights in a row; her performance in the 46664 concert, with various public icons, where she met the late President Nelson Mandela; and a performance at a casino in New England, where a stretch limousine was sent to pick her up.
Louise relaxes after shows with a big cup of tea, and watches series on TV.
Our last question to Louise was, “Who was the first person to tell you your single Sunrise was in the number one spot on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart?” She said Joe Bermudez had emailed her the day before to tell me, so she knew for a day and a half before the rest of the world, and couldn’t tell anyone!
Tickets for the concert are R150 for adults, and R75 for children. There will be food and drink on sale on the day, and you will not be allowed to bring in any food or drinks from external vendors.
