A million plastic bottles to save his business
After a series of unfortunate events, Francois is ready to restart his business.
After being forced to close his business because of a dispute with his landlord, Francois Myburgh is ready to get back on his feet, and re-open his nursery and landscaping business.
A series of unfortunate events last year, including theft, disputes with his landlord and selling his business (although Francois decided to keep the name and just sell the equipment) led to the closure of Garry’s Garden.
Francois didn’t just lose his income – he lost most of his possessions, and ended up living on the street.
Despite all these issues, Francois recently decided to pick up the pieces and start over, by collecting one million plastic two litre bottles to recycle. According to Francois, the funds collected from the first 300 000 bottles will be used to secure new premises for the business, as well as the basic stock. The income from the next 200 000 will pay for additional stock, while another 300 000 will be allocated to salaries. The funds from the final 200 000 will go into a trust to help young entrepreneurs.
Francois hopes to provide the West Rand with quality plants and stock at reasonable prices.
He also hopes to be able to issue a Pensioners’ Loyalty card, allowing pensioners a 25 per cent discount on a Wednesday, and a 50 per cent discount if they bring a friend who becomes a customer with them.
Francois has collected 400 bottles thus far. If you would like to get involved, contact him on 076 827 2115, or send him an email at garrysgardensa@gmail.com.
