It’s cool to walk with your child
Child Welfare is urging parents to stand up and protect what belongs to them – their children.
Gone are the days when parents could let their children walk the streets alone.
Krugersdorp Child Welfare is urging parents to take a stand and protect and educate their children.
They, the Department of Education, and Mogale City’s councillors are worried about the reported cases of abuse, neglect, drug abuse, rape and abandonment. They have therefore launched a project called ‘Walk with your child’ to help combat the problem.
“We encourage unemployed parents to walk with their children to and from school. Gone are the days where parents can send their children to the shops or spazas alone. Gone are the days where a child can freely play in the street unsupervised. Gone are the days where anybody could look after your child. Your children need you to be their friend, teacher and advocate,” said Adelaide Mongae, a social worker at Krugersdorp Child Welfare.
She added that the government is doing everything it can to protect children. There are police officers, social workers, teachers and different organisations protecting children.
“The question is: What are you doing to protect your children?”.
Parents are urged to stand up and protect what is theirs – their children. There are people who target children for various reasons, among them human trafficking, drugs, prostitution, child labour and other criminal activities. Make sure you always know where your children are.
