Crowds go crazy at GoWest! concert

The event gave local upcoming artists a platform to show off their musical talents.

The GoWest! concert was once again the source of musical talent and ample entertainment when it took place on Heritage Day (24 September) at Coronation Park.

Artists started performing at about 2pm and the crowd leaped to its feet as soon as the music began to play.

The local traffic department had a torrid time controlling the steady stream of vehicles flowing through the entrance to the park.

The event gave local upcoming artists a platform to show off their musical talents with the likes of Afro-soul, Jazz and traditional African music. Main acts such as Nathi, the Afro-soul Sama award winning artist, and Vusi Nova entertained the audience. Top local artists such as Mafikizolo and Nhlanhla Theo also made their appearance on stage. Successful cross-over artist PJ Powers took the crowd back in time with hits from the 80s, while other artists such as the famous trumpeter Hugh Masekela blew the crowd away with his combined trumpeting, dancing and vocalisation act.

The younger crowd could not contain themselves as Fifi Cooper and Kwesta sang their encores.

While preoccupied with covering the event, Thuso Sebotho, a daily newspaper freelance photojournalist, allegedly suffered a huge loss, as his camera and radio were stolen out of his vehicle. Other crimes such as petty theft, noise complaints and drunk driving were also reported by the Krugersdorp Police.

The event ended on a jolly note in the early hours of Sunday morning and the crowd returned home giving the residents of the surrounding areas their first moments of silence since the party started.
