State takes action after another rabies scare

The Department of Veterinarian Services is hosting a free blitz rabies vaccination drive in the area.

Residents of Krugersdorp recently learned that more than eight cases of rabies have been reported in the greater Mogale City and Magaliesburg areas.

The most recent is of the three domestic dogs in Krugersdorp West that tested positive for the virus.

To ensure the virus does not spread to other animals, the Department of Veterinarian Services (state vet) will host a free blitz rabies vaccination drive in the area.

The vaccinations will be a preventative measure to ensure that pets and residents do not become infected.

The state vet urges everyone who owns a pet to bring it to be vaccinated free of charge. It does not matter in which area you live, the state vet will vaccinate your animal on the spot.

Details of the vaccination drive:

Date: Thursday 13 October

Venue: Paul Kruger Hall, Flemming Avenue, Krugersdorp West

Time: 3pm to 6pm

Any person from any area in Gauteng can come to have their dogs vaccinated.
