“Athlolang Primary School has participated in this race for more than five years, and usually, we take first place, but things changed this weekend. We run in partnership with the Striders Athletics Club, which helps train our pupils, and we are happy to participate because our pupils love sports activities,” said school principal, Patronella Mathole. She also said that she is proud of the pupils who participated and the sports co-ordinator, Nelly Mmile. “I am proud of my pupils, they really did their best. We always enter this competition because it is good for the school and they seem to be enjoying it so far,” Nelly told the News.

Patronella and Nelly have not allowed the challenges they’ve faced, such as transport and not being able to afford the registration fee for the number of pupils wanting to enter, to affect their pupils.

Eight-year-old Basetsana Williams was very proud of her participation in the race and said that she enjoyed winning prizes for her school.

“As second place winners, our pupils won a laptop for the school, a printer and Pritt face-painting packages,” Nelly told the News.
