Donate a car seat for the Car Seats for Kids campaign

Donate a car seat and give a child the gift of life.

Imperial Road Safety is urging Krugersdorpers to donate car seats to its Car Seats for Kids campaign, which will take place on Monday, 17 October at Cradlestone Mall.

The campaign, launched just in time for National Transport Month, is now in its fifth year and runs across Gauteng, Tshwane, Limpopo, North West and Mpumalanga. It is aimed at educating parents about the importance of buckling their children up, and doing it correctly. “Each year, we push the boundaries in road safety education and this year is no different. As leaders in mobility, there is no doubt that we are at the forefront of the change to safer roads. The Car Seats for Kids campaign is a fundamental part of such change,” said Niki Cronje, Imperial’s Group Marketer.

Through this campaign, the mobility company aims to teach parents how to select the right car seat, based on the child’s weight, and then ensure that the seat is correctly installed. Imperial will clean, refurbish and safety check all donated car seats, and give them to families that cannot afford new ones. “A car seat is not a luxury, it is a necessity; therefore it is our mission to use every avenue available to drive awareness of the campaign and encourage consumers to donate their used car seats. This will give numbers of children the gift of safety this Transport Month,” Niki told the News.

Imperial has partnered with automotive manufacturers such as Hyundai, Renault and Kia to give customers easy access to drop-off points, thus ensuring that everyone in Krugersdorp and the surrounding areas can easily drop their used car seats at one of the designated places. “There is no doubt that this year will be phenomenal and we hope that the number of donated car seats will exceed those of previous years, building on the great success we’ve had in our partnership with Wheel Well. To date, a total of 7 500 car seats have been collected,” said Niki, speaking about their partnership with a popular radio station.

Peggy Mars, founder of Wheel Well, said an average of four children die in a vehicle daily, due to lack of car seats, and children from lower income families are five times more likely to be affected. “The passionate and ongoing support of Imperial Road Safety will translate directly into so many more children being able to travel safely. The magic of this campaign is that it enables parents to become more aware of the necessity for car seats, as well as of the vulnerability of children in a crash, but very importantly it provides a solution at the same time,” Peggy told the News.

The campaign will run from 7.30am to 4.30pm. For more information, visit Imperial’s website at https://www.imperial.co.za/sus-roadsafety.php#tab-3.
