Fluffy friends celebrate spring

All of the huskies in the shelter have been rescued, vaccinated and chipped, which means they are healthy, happy and traceable.

Man’s best friend celebrated the beginning of spring recently when Husky Heaven hosted their annual Spring Day fundraiser.

Kindhearted volunteers gave some of the huskies a good bath before feeding and playing with them. Some volunteers went as far as taking their new furry friends to the play area of the shelter and playfully chased them around the spacious enclosure.

“Husky Heaven does things a little differently,” Brenda Meyer, founder of Husky Heaven said. “We know our huskies need space to run.”

Huskies are known for their great energy and strength in pulling sleds in icy weather. For them, having a small enclosure could mean an immediate depressive state.

Each husky has a 10 square meter enclosure to ensure they have enough space to run around when they are not in the play area.

Huskies also have thick fur coats which means they overheat easily and would become ill if they are not kept cool. Husky Heaven has a unique irrigation system that acts as ‘cloudless rain’ when the summer days become too hot.

The Le Rouxs: Bregita, Alyscia, Vaugan and Jayson adopted their husky a few months before Husky Heavens' Spring Day and brought her by to reunite and play with some of her old rescued friends.

” A pipe with regularly spaced holes runs along the top of each fence. We pump water through and it sprays a thin cloud of water over most of the enclosure and wets the dogs. They absolutely love it when the sprayers are on and you can see them become more lively.”

Each enclosure also has a plastic sandpit shell filled with water so the huskies can swim if they get too hot.

“Even though Husky Heaven provides all the necessities for the huskies, they still need homes and families who love them. They are loving and need their love returned by human companions.”

This is why the shelter promotes husky adoption. All of the huskies in the shelter have been rescued, vaccinated and chipped, which means they are healthy, happy and traceable.

“All they need is love.” The shelter has adoption options and invites the community to take one of their loving fluffy friends home.
