Krugersdorp Game Reserve gets a facelift
Now awarded a two-star grading for the first time ever, the Krugersdorp Game Reserve is in a new phase with a new face.
A brand new Krugersdorp Game Reserve awaits us with new renovations, staff and a new face.
The Red Ants began managing the reserve in November 2015 and aim to return the game reserve to its former glory.
“Our primary aim in this period is to right the years of infrastructure neglect and to manage the bloodline of the wild life in the park,” said the reserve’s Parks Director, Alex Rubenheimer.
More than R10 million had been invested in maintaining the reserve and training the staff, all done in just 11 months.
Alex says that the work that has been done so far has focused on re-thatching the dilapidated roofs of the main lodge, rondawels and lodges, fixing swimming pools, re-opening the tuck-shop and renovating the ablution facilities, gardens and the general caravan park area.

“With the assistance of the West Rand District Municipality, Emergency Services, the police and several other departments from Mogale City, disaster and game management plans were developed for the reserve that include kitchen upgrades, lodge and rondawel clean-ups and ensuring that food and accommodation permits are obtained,” Alex told the News.
In addition to the staff training and renovations, the reserve added new faces to its team. Miss Tourism South Africa, Cindy-Lee Burrell, will be the new face of the game reserve.
“I am very excited and it is an honour to be on board with them. I know how hard they have worked to renovate the game reserve so I am proud to be its face,” Cindy told the News.
According to Alex, Cindy’s involvement as a face of the game reserve will see her hosting her ‘Beauty and the Beast project’ at the game reserve where members of the public will be able to rub shoulders with the beauties.

Other new faces include environmentalist and game management manager, George van der Wat who is the reserve’s new manager, and Fritz Kaus, who is the head chef.
Some of the ongoing projects include rebuilding the lion enclosure, re-fencing the game reserve and rebuilding the aviary.
“We want to thank the public, the Mogale City Local Council, the West Rand District Municipality and the Police, for their valuable support,” Alex told the News.
