Nic Diederichs matric pupils still positive about their future
#FeesMustFall protests: 'They are destroying valuables and facilities and leaving universities with huge financial burdens.'
The News recently visited the Nic Diederichs Technical High School to find out about its current matric pupils’ future plans and how they feel about the #FeesMustFall protests.
The pupils generally believe that university fees must fall, but say the protesters are handling the matter badly.
“They are destroying valuables and facilities and leaving the universities with huge financial burdens,” said Boipelo Thage, a matric learner.
They feel the students are protesting for three reasons: they do not have the money to pay fees; some are protesting for show; and some are doing it to take advantage of free education.
“If something is free, you don’t appreciate it enough,” said Lethlhogondo Tshepthane.
Despite all the negativity about future studying, these learners still feel positive and have big dreams. One of them will be joining the Durban University of Technology next year to study electrical engineering, while another will attend university in Bloemfontein to study law.
The overall message these learners have is that they feel they are doing well in their final examinations, because they have studied hard and want to have a bright future.
The News wishes the matric class of 2016 good luck with their final papers and hopes their futures will be bright.
