Traffic officer hit by car while on duty

A traffic officer was taken to hospital after he was hit by a car while assisting an adult scholar patroller.

A traffic officer spent the weekend in hospital after being hit by a car while on duty.

On Wednesday, November 16, a senior traffic officer was helping an adult scholar patroller with her duties on the R41 Randfontein road when he stopped a vehicle to make way for pedestrians to cross to the other side.

A taxi came up behind the vehicle that had already stopped, and failed to stop. It bumped into the stationary vehicle causing it to move forward towards the officer and run him down.

The driver of the stationary vehicle had to be pulled out of his vehicle by emergency services personnel as he was trapped. The traffic officer was taken to hospital.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the stationary vehicle was arrested on the scene.
