Women learn the importance of taking care

Women were inspired to rise above their circumstances.

A group of women came together on a Saturday morning to discuss what it would be like if they had no financial stability or support.

Mignonne Groenewald hosted a ladies morning at the quaint Cherry on Top restaurant in Kenmare where guest speakers from various sectors of the corporate and international world addressed the women about what it means to truly take care of oneself.

The morning started off with Miss International, Amanda Moreno who hails from the USA, explaining the importance of beauty from within. Amanda spent a few weeks in the country and visited poverty-stricken areas to help understand the different dynamics of young women in Africa.

She also had the opportunity to meet with young women and inspire them to rise above their circumstances.

Amanda was accompanied by Mignonne’s daughter, Monje Jordaan. Monje is an au pair in the USA where she met Amanda. Together they embarked on the True Beauty Movement, a project that empowers disadvantaged young women through fundraising projects.

Monje spoke about how she was destined to meet Amanda and they formed a unique friendship. Monje invited Amanda to South Africa to witness the challenges many girls face.

The morning was ended off with Irene Kemp, Sanlam Regional Manager, sharing her wisdom on why it is important for women to be on top of their finances.

Irene spoke about how women, especially the older generation, need to make ends meet on a very low budget because they did not save towards retirement, illness or loss of income.

The morning’s activities concluded with a scrumptious brunch, tea-time treats and basking in Miss International’s exquisite beauty while donations were being gathered towards breast-cancer research.
