Silverstar’s manager makes a mark at race
Shane Collinson rode with his team of friends under the Silverstar Team ROLL ON banner to raise funds for QASA.
The 13th annual Quads 4 Quads off-road motorbike event from Johannesburg to Durban took place recently.
The first leg of the journey ended on Sunday, 2 October at Cane Cutters in Ballito. Thursday, 6 October saw the return ride, with the journey ending with a bang at Carnival City Casino and Hotel. The ride ended on a high note as Shane and his team presented one lucky non-profit organisation, QuadPara Association of South Africa (QASA) with five state-of-the-art wheelchairs sponsored by Silverstar on 10 October.
About 600 quad-bikers, including a number of two-wheel motorcycle riders as well as several quadriplegic and paraplegic riders, took part in this endurance charity ride that saw riders face about 250km of dirt road for eight hours each day, covering a total of a 1 000 kilometres over the four days.
One such rider was Silverstar’s Director of Operations and Complex General Manager, Shane Collinson, who rode with his team of friends under the Silverstar Team ROLL ON banner to raise funds for QASA.
“This ride, given the distance and diverse terrain that had to be covered, was not easy. Such rides never are, but I was part of a very strong team of 30 dirt-bike friends and back-ups. We did what we could to reach our destination, Carnival City, and loved the experience. It was an amazing event that was extremely well hosted by Glen and his team from Family Adventures and I am happy that we were able to assist in some small way in raising funds for QASA,” Shane said.
The money generated by Shane’s friends during the event will assist QASA to develop and deliver the necessary projects and equipment to help quadriplegics and paraplegics integrate into society and live meaningful lives.
There is no doubt that this event, which is not just a ride, will continue to grow bigger each year.
