Mogale City Museum launches art exhibition
The museum awarded and celebrated exhibitors while urging up and coming artists to exhibit their art work with them.
Art came alive when the Mogale City Museum launched the visual arts exhibition on Friday, 25 November in Krugersdorp.
Some of the artists who exhibited their work are Susan Allin, Dawid van Deventer and Grit Cameratt. There were many others – too many to mention them all. Each artist whose work was exhibited received a certificate from the museum. The Mogale City Choir serenaded the art lovers and the MMC of Heritage, Arts and Culture, Councillor Themba Mokoena addressed the crowd.
“This exhibition will give fine arts artists opportunities to exhibit their works of art at the museum, free of charge. The aim of the exhibition is to reflect its commitment to championing skilled artists in the city and neighbouring cities,” said Bessie Makhuba, Mogale City Museum’s curator. She also said that they aim to market the art products to people who visit the museum to buy art work for home or business use.
Bessie said that she views the museum as a platform for artists to network, grow and encourage each other. Artists who are interested in exhibiting their work or potential buyers should note that the exhibition takes place annually during the month of November.
“The museum would like to invite community members to come and support the artists by buying their art work,” Bessie told the News.
The museum is open from Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm, Saturdays from 9am to noon and closed on public holidays and Sundays.
