Emile sets an impressive record

Former Maragon learner, Dr Emile Zitzke has become the youngest person to obtain a Doctor of Laws (LLD) degree in the faculty of law.

Emile Zitzke has become the youngest person to obtain a Doctor of Laws (LLD) degree in the Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria.

This Maragon Private School Alumnus successfully defended his doctoral thesis on Thursday, 17 November. He obtained an LLB degree at the University of Pretoria in 2013 with various awards, and registered for a research LLM in private law in 2014, while he was an assistant lecturer at the Department of Jurisprudence.

“After one year of LLM studies, my supervisor, Professor Johan Scott and I applied for an upgrade of my project to an LLD. Our application was successful and by August I submitted my doctoral thesis for examination,” said Emile.

Johan described Emile as an exceptional young man with wisdom well beyond his years.

“What makes his performance so much more remarkable is that he is one of the few candidates who have been permitted to upgrade his Master of Laws studies to doctoral studies and that was done in 2015. The quality of his work is fully attested to by the glowing reports received from his examiners. To my mind, Dr Zitzke will be one of academia’s future shining lights,” Johan said.

Emile will graduate on Friday, 9 December and plans to pursue a postdocorate fellowship in 2017.
