The biggest gift ever, a baby born on Christmas

'She decided to come as an early Christmas present to me.'

Eleven mothers felt grateful and blessed this Christmas after delivering their babies on Christmas Day, 25 December.

As the News walked into Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital’s maternity ward, the new mothers’ faces lit up with pride.

They could not wait to show off their brand-new bundles of joy for the first time.

Some came as a surprise for their family and some were expected. Seven boys and four girls were curled up in their mothers’ arms as the News captured the special moment.

Lebo Sekuroana welcomed a healthy baby boy named Sibusiso weighing 3,5 kilograms and measured 51 centimetres in length.

“I am so happy and I cannot wait to take him home to meet his sister,” said Lebo.

Karin van der Walt welcomed a beautiful baby girl and decided to name her Liane.

“I only expected her to come in January and then she surprised me on Christmas Day,” Karin said.

Liane made her appearance at 3.15pm and weighed 2,1 kilograms and measured 37 centimetres.

Yvonne Chiloane welcomed a friendly baby girl, called Keabetswe, and could not stop smiling.

“I expected her to arrive on 28 December, but she decided to come as an early Christmas present to me,” said Yvonne.

Keabetswe weighed 3,2 kilograms and was 52 centimetres in length.

The sister on duty told to the News that there were more babies born this year than in 2015.

“It is so beautiful and a big blessing and we are all so very happy for all of them,” sister Mapula Shupinyane said.
