‘Hoo’ has the biggest special?

"If an owl flies into someone’s house and won’t leave, it's a good omen."

Like it or not, many of us believe in signs of good fortune and impending disaster.

Cradlestone Mall shoppers had the pleasure of seeing such an omen up close on Monday, 19 January, when an owl flew into the mall’s food court. The friendly visitor sat silently on the highest window pane above the shoppers, causing them to look up constantly and wonder what the wise bird was contemplating – perhaps he was just enjoying the majestic view of the Paardeplaats Hill and its naturally rich surroundings? Shoppers were fascinated by the calm visitor that remained in their presence for two consecutive days.

Security guards notified the mall’s management about the owl and various efforts to remove it were made.

“We contacted the SPCA and Owl Rescue to come and remove the majestic creature, but before they could, it disappeared mysteriously.” Centre management believes it left the centre during the night.

Although the owl was not there for long, many store managers believe the bird’s presence will bring them good fortune.

“If an owl flies into someone’s house and won’t leave, it’s a good omen,” said Najla Richardson, Manager for Cradlestone Mall. “We wish the owl a safe and peaceful journey.”
