Five bumper bashes in three hours due to rain

Arrive Alive gives tips on driving in wet conditions because of the high collision rate during these conditions.

Sat24, a live broadcasting weather website, has issued a warning for heavy rain over the weekend in both Krugersdorp and Roodepoort.

Although weather forecasts are only estimates of what the weather could look like, it is always good to know what to expect when you wake up in the morning.

Since Krugersdorp alone had five bumper bashing accidents on Friday morning, it is good to know what you can do to avoid causing a collision during bad weather conditions.

To aid community members in driving on wet roads, and because of the high collision rate during these conditions, Arrive Alive has issued a public statement containing some tips for driving in wet conditions

Here are some of the pointers the organisation mentioned:

1. If it is raining, reduce your speed significantly.

2. Don’t brake too quickly. If you want to reduce speed, take your foot off the accelerator pedal long before you need to stop and let your vehicle reduce speed gradually.

3. Only move to the left of the side of the road if you can see 150m in front of you.

4. Reduce to a lower speed and gear when you go around a bend or turn to avoid spinning out of control.

5. Increase your following distance by at least 3–5 metres.

6. Always drive with your lights on.

7. If a vehicle approaches on the opposite of the road, increase the speed of your wipers, as they could splash your windscreen with water leaving you blind for a few seconds.
