Breaking: Man commits suicide in court cells
The suspect was arrested for malicious damage to property and domestic violence.
A suspect, who is believed to be 37 years old, committed suicide in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court cells on Tuesday, 31 January at about 11am.
Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale, spokesperson for Krugersdorp Police, said in a press statement the suspect hanged himself after he had appeared in front of the Magistrate. His case was postponed again, and he would have remained in custody until his next appearance.
“It is alleged the 37-year-old hanged himself using the lace of his hoodie,” Mashale said.
The suspect was recently arrested for malicious damage to property and domestic violence. He had made an initial appearance, but the case had been postponed until 31 January.
The man was declared dead on scene. An inquest had been opened by the Krugersdorp Police.
