Maragon learners embrace the funk
The initiatives of funky hair and Shavathon were combined.
Big and small, they all knew the cause.
Funky Hair Day at Maragon Avianto Primary School turned out to be a big celebration for both the learners and the teachers, as they all participated.
The initiatives of funky hair and the Cansa Shavathon were combined and children had the chance to wear casual wear to school. One child had the Statue of Liberty braided into her hair while another became a unicorn for the day.
“The children and their parents did so much to make this day even more fun by dressing creatively and doing their hair in creative styles,” said Principal Monica de Beer.
The highlight of the day was when each child decided to participate in the good cause for cancer research. All the colours of the rainbow were sprayed onto their hair and each child was taught the reason behind the spray.
Principal Monica felt very proud of the school and told the News that while they know they’re still a small school, they feel that every small donation towards cancer research may save a life.
Funky Hair Day was implemented this year and the school decided that it would be a yearly institution in upcoming years. From next year it is going to be bigger and better.
