Curro Krugersdorp School stunned audiences in shopping malls when their African Drums Team performed in centre courts all over, on Saturday, 11 March.
The group attracted the attention of shoppers of all races and cultures to listen to their performance and enjoy their talent. They performed in Clearwater Mall, Cradlestone Mall and Key West Mall, all in one day.

After every performance, people asked questions about the team and wanted to know who they were. People complimented Curro Krugersdorp for accommodating and introducing different cultures to different races in our schools.
The group’s inspiration was late President Nelson Mandela’s dream of uniting races and cultures in South Africa by sharing sport, music and dance. He chose rugby as the sport that would unite the nation. “His employees thought he was crazy and his advisers advised him not to use rugby to unite people and also not to keep the Springbok emblem which reminded people of apartheid,” said Roxanne Coetzer, spokesperson for Curro.

“His advisers told him that the people who elected him would feel betrayed. But, he insisted on his vision and pursued what he believed in. In 1995, the Springbok rugby team won the Rugby World Cup and his dream came true. People of all races and culture united and celebrated together. The rest is history.”

Curro respects different cultures and they dream and explore them all. The biggest moment for the parents who watched their children perform was the fact that Curro achieved something many people still struggle with: uniting learners through special musical cultures.
