Monnas’ musos shine during prestigious event
Hoërskool Monument is proud of its strong presence at the Rand Symphony Orchestra's annual Youth Concert.
An astonishing total of three Hoërskool Monument learners participated in the Rand Symphony Orchestra’s annual Youth Concert at the Linder Auditorium in Parktown as ‘Rising Stars’.
This is a very special achievement for the learners and the school as only 14 superbly talented ‘Rising Stars’ have been selected from the whole of Gauteng to perform under the baton of Carel Henn, a well-known South African cellist, soloist, orchestral and chamber musician.

The Rand Symphony Orchestra has been a vibrant contributor to the classical music community in Gauteng for nearly 30 years. The Youth Concert is a highlight on their annual calendar.
On Sunday, 4 June, the varied and fascinating programme included works by Bach, Vivaldi, Haydn, Mozart, Mercadante, Hummel, Saint-Saëns, Grieg, Rieding, Rimsky-Korsakov, Popper and Kabalevsky on violin, cello, flute, trumpet, horn, trombone and piano.
The three learners, Willie Naudé, Carina Naudé and Karlin Kock truly held their school’s name high at this prestigious event. Willie enchanted the crowd with his piano rendition of the Saint-Saëns Allegro Appassionato. He was accompanied by the orchestra. Carina performed Rieding’s Violin concertino in E-flat (3rd movement), and blew the audience away, while Karlin stunned the listeners with her performance of Haydn’s Piano concerto in D- major (1st movement).
