A boost for Visible Policing: 20 brand-new vehicles

Grant McCleery, a renowned racing car driver and advanced driving instructor showed policemen how to inspect their valuable new resource.

The West Rand Cluster’s police stations have had to endure a vehicle shortage for more than a year, but their prayers were answered last week, when 20 brand-new LDV vehicles were delivered to their stations.

On Friday, 4 August the vehicles were officially handed over to the group of crime fighting constables at SA Eagle in Krugersdorp.

The group of constables has made an enormous impact on the fight against crime since their deployment in January 2017, despite the fact that their duties were hampered by a shortage of vehicles. Now, they have the tools to make an even greater impact on society.

The hand-over was preceded by an informative session, conducted by Grant McCleery, a renowned racing car driver and advanced driving instructor who has competed in multiple SA Championships on both four and two wheels.

McCleery, who has been an active police reservist since 1986 and is a passionate police official, stated that the constables are privileged to receive these valuable tools.

“Please look after the most important tool of your trade, your vehicle. It is a proven fact that the dedicated patrol officer is the most effective crime prevention method in the world. Visibility is essential and without a vehicle, your effectiveness diminishes,” said McCleery.

He also conducted a practical inspection of the vehicles and gave pointers to drivers on how to properly maintain this expensive resource.

“This group of constables will be deployed throughout the West Rand Cluster, primarily to manage our priority crimes in predetermined hot spot areas,” said Brigadier Leon Kruger, deputy Cluster commander for the West Rand.

“Secondarily, they will conduct proactive police operation to address all types of crime.”

The West Rand community can rest assured that the West Rand police members are committed to service excellence.
