What women want this Women’s Month

It is understandable that men also have their own responsibilities in their households, but a little effort will not go unnoticed by the women in their lives.

Women are known as nurturers, they are flexible in the workplace, home-makers, innovative leaders and all-around superwomen.

This year marks 61 years after the remarkable Women’s March in 1956, and women have evolved from mere child-bearers to some of the most profound leaders in business, economy, politics, academics, sports and show business. And of course, they’ve become the eighth wonder of the world: women who juggle careers, motherhood and marriage to the best of their ability.

Fisani Mnguni, a social worker in Krugersdorp who also puts on a mother and wife cap after hours, said it is not easy but it is doable.

“At first it was hard, especially because social work is not just a nine to five job. I receive calls any time of the day and I often have to help someone out of a dangerous situation, so I have to prioritise,” said Fisani.

The News asked Fisani how she would like her husband to treat her this month. The first thing she said she would appreciate is some help with making dinner and helping the children with their homework.

A housewife from Boltonia said she would like her children to assist with the dishes more and to massage her feet, and for her husband to take her out to her favourite restaurant.

There is a clear pattern as to what the wives of Krugersdorp would like, but how about the unmarried women in the area?

Lebohang Pule from Munsieville would like to have a computer and new shoes.

“I always have to walk to the internet café when I need to do some typing or my assignments, so a computer would help me a lot. And shoes, well, a girl can never have enough shoes,” said Lebohang.

Twitter, the social network site, lists the top five things that women would like from men this month. They are:

• Spending quality time together, even if it is indoors watching a movie

• A book by their favourite author

• Receiving compliments and more attention from their better half

• Marriage proposals or romantic dates

• Understanding, respect and honesty
