Vandalism getting out of hand

According to the DA councillor for Ward 18 these neglected properties have become very undesirable in otherwise well-kept areas.

When driving through certain areas of Mogale City, one can expect to come across numerous vandalised, half-built and overgrown properties that have become a security, health and fire risk.

According to Annette Fourie, DA councillor for Ward 18, these neglected properties, which occur in otherwise well-kept areas, have become very undesirable and create a bad impression for visitors and possible developers.

“We need sustainable development to grow our economy and a strong economy will benefit all. Processes to trace the owners of these abandoned properties have been going on for a long time,” she said.

In some cases, none of the recorded contact details even exist anymore. “These futile searches increase the time and costs spent on them”, Annette said.

“As a concerned councillor representing Ward 18, I visited some of these properties with an official from Mogale City Municipality, and hope that by working together we will in future be able to solve these problems,” she said.

However, Annette stressed that ultimately it is the responsibility of the owners to keep their vacant properties in a proper condition.
