After-school programme for a better future

This after-school programme is specifically designed for the Krugersdorp area and will serve as a healthy alternative to wandering the streets, and educate the next generation.

The youth are the future of South Africa, and the tools they’re given today will determine what they will accomplish in future. That’s why it is of utmost importance to set a solid foundation and create a stable platform for their journey towards achieving greatness.

With the vision of achieving just this, local pastor and director of Cross Connect Community Outreach (CCCO) – a child-orientated charity – Kyle Tolman, came up with the initiative of starting a CCCO after-school programme, in partnership with Mogale City, over and above some of their other projects.

This after-school programme is specifically designed for the Krugersdorp area and will serve as a healthy alternative to wandering the streets and educate the next generation.

“As we all know, it can be quite hard for parents to arrange after-school care for their children, for various reasons. We want to get some of these children off the streets and away from its dangers and create a healthy learning environment,” said Kyle.

Not only do they intend to provide each child with a light meal and healthy snacks every day, but they will also be launching their Sports Development Programme with the launch of the after-school programme.

The fee to attend the programme is R700 per child per month, but this can be reviewed according to the parents’ earnings and what they can afford. Any children between the ages of six and 18 are welcome to attend.

Pastor Kyle Tolman aims to secure the youth with a better future.

Intensive extra classes will also be hosted, as numerous Hoërskool Noordheuwel educators will be available to the learners’ benefit.

Kyle would also like to ask the community’s assistance in the form of donations. Donations can include sandwich spreads, fruit cordial, bread, fruit and stationery.

Some of their other projects include the Burgershoop Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre, supporting about 20 families three times a week in partnership with Oasis, and serving as a middleman for members of the community who want to give, but might not know where.

The after-school programme will be launched on 4 September at the Burgershoop Community Centre. For more enrollment information, contact Kyle on 064 136 1991 or send an e-mail to kyle@crossconnect.co.za.
