What happened in Key West on Saturday, 26 August?
Although some thought it might have been a Vape competition, this was not the case.
The Krugersdorp community took to social media to express their concerns about smoke inside Key West Shopping Centre on Saturday, 26 August.
Although some thought it might have been a Vape competition taking place inside the centre, it was actually an accidental fire-alarm activation.
“Key West Shopping Centre can confirm that on Saturday, 26 August 2017 a smoke alarm was set off by one of the jewellery stores. This was a false alarm,” said Maxine Edwards, spokesperson of Key West.
“The safety of all patrons and shoppers is, and always remains, the Centre’s top priority and we will continue to remain alert.”
No one was injured and the alarm was deactivated.
On the same day however, a member of the public fainted inside the shopping mall.
“All the necessary emergency services were contacted, and the patron was escorted to a nearby emergency facility for further examination.
“Key West Shopping Centre wishes the patron well and a full recovery.”
