KHS Glee Club to perform in New York
“Glee was something I wanted to get involved with because I understand how powerful music can be. "
The Krugersdorp High School (KHS) Glee Club had an on-off track record for a few years, but they regrouped last year, and now they mean business.
Teacher Jade Sawyer, who is very passionate about the group, sought the help of Robyn Williamson, also a teacher, to lead the group vocally. Both are also alumni of the school, so they know the school and its culture very well.
The children are encouraged to work hard and are held to a very high standard. They are a close-knit, talented group of young performers. They support one another’s strengths and challenge each other to be better.
The choral group has reached great heights, especially since qualifying for the National Arts Festival by winning a diamond award at the RACA Arts Festival last year.
It was the first time an official KHS choral group had ever attended the arts festival – never mind received a diamond award.
They grew from 21 members in 2017 to 50 members in 2018, breaking boundaries and making a safe place for singers of all varieties to belong to.

At Talent Africa on Wednesday, 4 April, the group received gold medals for all three of their performances and was invited to return to the festival’s showcase on Sunday, 8 April as the flagship performance, for which they received a standing ovation.
The group is the biggest to ever make the performing arts team. They have the full support of Talent Africa, who were very complimentary about their performance and dedication.
“We have set our sights on attending the World Championships – Talent America – in July. Some of the performances will be in New York. We are making history in our school and the staff could not be more proud of them.”
But they have a long way to go before they can go overseas.
“We are looking for sponsors to help us make up the massive amount of money it’s going to take to get our large group there.”
