Exchange student trades currywurst for boerewors

For four weeks, Imke stayed with Monument High School learner, Liandri le Roux and her family.

She traded the castles for the landscapes, the ice hockey for the rugby and the currywurst for the boerewors.

For one month, a 16-year-old German girl named Imke Drechsel traded her lifestyle for the full authentic South African experience.

For four weeks, Imke stayed with Monument High School learner, Liandri le Roux and her family. This follows after Liandri went to Germany last year for a month as part of a cultural exchange programme.

During Imke’s visit, she went with her hosts to a family farm, Gold Reef City Theme Park, Cape Town and a game reserve, among other places. She even learnt how to ride a tractor.

She expressed her love for biltong and malva pudding which she doesn’t have in Germany. According to her, South Africa also has the most delicious meat and rooibos tea.

Because true friends are inseparable, they have already promised each other that they will meet again soon.
