Police looking for suspect in a Rietvallei rape

The Kagiso Police are asking for the community’s help in finding a man wanted for rape.

On 4 August, a woman and her friends went to the Mavendeni Tavern in Rietvallei. After a while, her friends decided to go off to buy food and left the woman there.

The woman decided to leave, but when she did so a man began following her and eventually grabbed her by the hand.

He tried to strangle her but she kept on fighting. She even tried yelling for help when they were close to a relative’s yard, but there was no answer and the man succeeded in dragging her to the back of the house.

He ended up undressing and raping her.

The man has a dark complexion and could be between 26 and 30 years old. He has a beauty spot on his right cheek and appears calm but can become aggressive easily. The suspect was speaking isiZulu.

“The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit is appealing to members of the community to assist with information that could lead to the successful arrest of the suspect,” said Captain Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson for the Kagiso Police.
