Krugersdorp Police nab 10 for hijacking

The Krugersdorp Police have arrested ten people in the past few days in connection with a number of unrelated hijackings.

The Krugersdorp Police have arrested 10 suspects in connection with various incidents of hijacking in the past few days.

“We have experienced numerous cases of hijacking in which victims were accosted and threatened with firearms, their vehicles were taken and they were robbed of their property,” said Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale, spokesperson for the Krugersdorp Police.

One of these incidents took place on 1 November at about 8pm on the R28 in West Village.

According to the victim, he was driving a two-trailer truck from Kroonstad in the Free State, and was coming to Krugersdorp to deliver the cargo.

He stopped at a traffic light and was attacked by two men who had firearms. The suspects climbed into the truck and it is alleged that more men also arrived. They tied the man up with cable ties and later dropped him in Randfontein.

Four suspects were arrested on 2 November in connection with the hijacking and the cargo was recovered. The truck was found in Boltonia, Krugersdorp.

The four suspects will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court on charges of hijacking. Six other suspects will also appear in court, on charges of hijackings that are not related to the first. Of the ten suspects, nine are men, and only one is a woman.

“We can never win the fight against crime without the involvement of the community,” said Krugersdorp Police station commander, Brigadier Mashao.

He said he was pleased with the swift response of the members who worked tirelessly to ensure the perpetrators were arrested. He added that the police appreciate the assistance of the community, which provides them with information that the police can follow up on, enabling them to catch the criminals.
