A little over 42 years ago a young, vibrant and talented educator walked onto the campus at Krugersdorp High School for the first time, as she took up her new position as Afrikaans teacher.
Little did she, or anybody else, know that her future at Krugersdorp High School was bright. In fact, she would only leave the school 42 years later as the deputy principal who would have devoted her life to the school and the children who walked through the gates.
Sharon Green has not only been a disciplinarian but a confidant, mentor, educator and leader at the school.
She has lived by the concept that it is vitally important to identify opportunities and she always encouraged her learners to follow their passion to one day become leaders in whatever field they decide to move into once leaving Krugersdorp High School.
This is proved by so many young men and women being involved in leadership programmes such as the Enke Programme and People2People. Some have become fellows of the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation: Circle of Excellence Programme.
Her dedication and passion are testament whenever a past learner walks into the school and makes a concerted effort to always just say “hi” and touch base with their beloved Miss Green.
Over and above this, her social calendar is filled by being an honorary guest at multiple reunions each year.
Sharon made her mark particularly in the 80s when she got Krugersdorp High School on the map for volleyball, with multiple players achieving their South African colours under her watch.
She has held the firm belief that education goes far beyond the classroom. On the sports field, on stage, and on tours, both locally and internationally, she has displayed a holistic approach to the education of hundreds of young people.
Krugersdorp High School’s family will have a great void as they say farewell and so long to Miss Green, but her legacy of excellence, pride and honour will live on in the generations that will further walk through the gates of Krugersdorp High School.
“We salute you, Miss Green, and wish you well in the next chapter of your life!”
