St Ursula’s celebrates its 115th birthday

Teachers and learners celebrated St Ursula's Convent's 115th birthday recently. It was a special birthday for all involved.

St Ursula’s School had a combined celebration in February as they celebrated 115 years of the school’s existence, and Father Terry Barnard’s 50 years of service.

Father Terry joined the Roman Catholic Church when he was just 18 years old.

The preschool had its own party to celebrate and all the children had to make their own birthday crowns.

Tony Botha, the school principal, Sister Diane and Father Terry Barnard cutting the birthday cake.

Later, the whole school came together and Tony Botha, the principal, opened the celebrations.

He continued by telling the pupils that St Ursula’s operates with a winning recipe that has been developed over the past 115 years. He said learners attending the school can be confident that they are receiving the best education possible.

The bell in the tower was then rung – this bell only rings on special occasions and is also 115 years old.

Then it was time for the cake to be cut and Tony, Sister Diane and Father Terry cut it together, and each child got a birthday cupcake.

So – Happy Birthday, St Ursula’s!
