Women help raise funds for Hope
Last Saturday, women from all over gathered in Krugersdorp West to enjoy a lunch and show, but more importantly, they were there to raise funds for a local women's shelter.
“Every R10 helps,” said Melodie van Brakel, founder of The Cradle of Hope women’s shelter, at their annual ladies’ luncheon on Saturday, 25 May.
Women from everywhere got together on Saturday morning in support of the Cradle of Hope shelter. Each table was spectacularly decorated by the hostesses, and sweet and savoury snacks were in abundance.

The charity event was held to raise money for the shelter’s House of Restoration that has been running for almost 10 years.
The house helps moms with or without children as well as young girls who come from terrible circumstances.
Melodie told the crowd that it is not only women from the West Rand that come to them for help, but women from all over the country, women who come from abusive relationships, from human trafficking or women who just have nowhere else to go.
They give these women a roof over their heads, they help by looking after their children and give them all the love and support they need. They offer special counselling and skills classes and once the women are on their feet, they help them to put together a new home and start their lives over again.

It costs up to R170 000 per month to run the shelter and they are completely reliant on donations.
At the luncheon, the guests were entertained by the music of well-known Afrikaans singers like Nicholis Louw, Burger Botha and Henry van Dyk, who were accompanied by Engelie le Roux on the piano.
There were also loads of prizes to be won in the lucky draws, and two art pieces went up on auction.
