#Caxton Cares: The cat whisperer of the Drift

Some call her the Drift's cat whisperer ... and even a crazy cat lady. All we know is it's a purrr-fect life for these furry felines.

When Googling the term ‘crazy cat lady’, the following comes up: “an older woman who lives alone with a large number of cats, to which she is thought to be obsessively devoted”.

If this is the case, then Ann la Mont is Muldersdrift’s proverbial crazy cat lady (without the living alone part) because she has over 100 cats in her care. Why, you may ask? Because no one else wanted these cats and kittens.

Ann, together with her brother and neighbour, have opened their homes to strays, dumped and neglected cats and call themselves Raise a Paw Rescue and Forever Home. These cats often come from harsh circumstances and now receive much-needed love, attention and care from Ann and her colleagues. But feeding over 100 cats does not come cheap and Caxton Joburg West heard her calls for help.

Through the ‘Caxton Cares’ initiative, Caxton Joburg West decided to lighten Ann’s load by donating two 25kg bags of Montego cat food to her. Ann said the food should last about a week.

“We use about 10kg of food a day,” she said.

The cats in Ann’s care are not up for adoption because she feels that re-homing an adult cat is very difficult to do, therefore her main focus is giving them the best life they deserve, and by the looks of things, it’s kitty paradise in Muldersdrift.

If you would like to help Ann in any way, feel free to give her a call on 082 302 3345.
