[WATCH] Straight from the horse’s mouth – Animal Wellness Day a neighing success

It was a beautiful day, full of laughter, fun and learning.

Shortly after 10am on Saturday, 29 June, things began to liven up as horse and dog enthusiasts and animal lovers in general made their way through the stalls at the Horse and Hound Animal Wellness Day at the AFM Church.

It was a beautiful day, full of laughter, fun and learning as many came to support this worthy cause which was the brainchild of Yolanda Steyn and her team from Oppistal, a fully fledged equine recreational and rehab centre in Sterkfontein.

The day was put together by Yolanda after noticing a severe increase in animal neglect and abuse on the West Rand. Yolanda, together with Vicki Sokolich, wrote and published a book, Introduction to horse ownership in South Africa, and also launched it on the day. Proceeds from the sales of the book on the day also formed part of the funds that were split between three charities – Friends of Rescued Animals, The 9th Day Animal Shelter and the Highveld Horse Care Unit.

In total, over R7 000 was raised through book sales, raffle tickets and stall space bookings, giving each organisation over R2 400.
