Man shoots himself during an early evening Kenmare robbery

Three armed assailants robbed a man in his house in Kenmare last night. The quick work of EPR reaction officers and the CPF ensured the arrest of two of them.

Fast work by EPR reaction officers ensured the arrest of two armed robbers in the earlier hours of yesterday evening.
Johan Krogh, the General Manager for EPR Security, confirmed that they received a call from a client in Glen Street, Kenmare at 6.11pm.

The victim informed the control centre that he had been robbed in his home by three armed men and provided them with descriptions of the robbers’ clothing.

When two of EPR’s reaction officers, Van Deventer and Landman arrived at the residence, they heard a rustling noise coming from the vacant land next to the house.

When the reaction officers jumped over the wall they heard a shot go off and upon further investigating they found that one of the suspects had shot himself in the head.

With the help of the Sector 8 Community Policing Forum’s (CPF) members, the two reaction officers managed to arrest the two remaining suspects after the one who shot himself had succumbed to his injuries.

The two men apparently tried to hide in the field, but the members and officers found them, as well as the three firearms they used during the robbery.

They also retrieved the victim’s firearm which was taken by the suspects during the robbery, as well as money and other stolen property.

The robbers were then handed over to the Krugersdorp Police for further investigation.

“We are always proud of our reaction officers and the cooperation between the CPF and EPR is clearly a model that is working. Well done to all involved,” Krogh exclaimed.
