Annabel Foundation reaches out for help to ensure girls’ dignity

Menstruation and a lack of sanitary products sidelines many high school girls' school attendance each month. The Annabel Foundation is hosting a fashion fun show to help fund their sanitary packets and their matric farewell initiatives.

The Annabel Foundation has made it their goal to help as many school girls as possible attend school every day by providing them with the necessary sanitary products each month, which they otherwise might not have access to.

The foundation is reaching out to the community to help them fund this initiative and buy these packets for 65 children under their care in Hoƫrskool Noordheuwel and Monument High this year.

It costs between R150 to R200 to provide one girl with a sanitary packet each month. The packet contains sanitary pads, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, roll-on, soap, body cream, razors and toothpaste. People can opt to ‘adopt a learner’, so to speak, by pledging to pay for her sanitary packet each month. Alternatively, packets or single items can be donated directly to the Foundation.

With matric farewells approaching and having been through the motions with their own children, the Foundation has started a project to provide some of their girls with everything they need to attend and fully enjoy their school’s farewell with friends.

On Friday, 11 October, they’ll be hosting an event at Mount Usambara to raise funds. Entrants can show off their farewell dresses and suits in what they’re calling a ‘fun competition’, rather than a fashion show. Entries are R200 per competitor, and R250 per audience ticket, which include a light dinner. The Foundation is also reaching out to the community to donate their farewell dresses and suits when they no longer have a use for them. This will provide other learners with the opportunity to make their own wonderful memories at their farewells for years to come.
