Rand Water is working hard to manage the demand for water by their municipal and industrial customers in Gauteng, North West, Free State and Mpumalanga provinces.
However, the current combination of extremely high temperatures and virtually no rainfall within their area of supply have resulted in high water consumption levels, placing a significant amount of stress on the system.
According to Rand Water, the Vaal Dam’s level is at 50,7 per cent, last updated on 17 October.
“We are continuously monitoring all our reservoir levels and those of our customers,” according to a statement from Justice Mohale, Media Relations Manager of Rand Water.
“This information is critical to understanding the water demand situation of the system in order to facilitate any timeous and fit-for-purpose interventions. We note the measures adopted by our municipal customers to manage the situation, including monitoring the adherence to water restrictions where applicable, and prioritising the repair of municipal water leaks.”
Mohale urged consumers to play their part by using water sparingly and protecting this vital commodity.
“Water is too precious to waste, and is a natural resource that can no longer be taken for granted.”
