The Magaliesburg Police have issued a warning to residents in the area about a rise in livestock theft.
“For the past three months the Magaliesburg area has shown an increase in the number of livestock being stolen, sheep in particular,” according to a statement by Constable Rebecca Phithi from the Magaliesburg Police’s Corporate Communications section.

She went on to explain that the Magaliesburg Rural Safety Unit and the Stock Theft Unit were working tirelessly to locate those responsible for the crimes.
Their investigation has borne some fruit, however, in that some of the stolen livestock were traced and found in the Soweto area. The police have established that the markets where the livestock are being sold are also in that area.
“Lieutenant Colonel Joyce Julla, the Magaliesburg Police station commander, is urging farm owners to secure their livestock by tagging or branding them,” said the statement.
The police also suggest that farm owners profile their employees, as some could be assisting the livestock thieves. Another suggestion is to increase security measures in and around the property to help prevent access.
Julla called on the public to report anything suspicious regarding livestock.
