Two men robbed the shop next to the R560 road in Hekpoort on 24 August, explained the statement.

During the robbery, two men wearing balaclavas entered the shop at night and pointed a firearm at the victim. They assaulted the victim and then tied him up with cable ties.

The men took money and cigarettes before fleeing the scene.

“The police followed up on information received from the community, and that resulted in the arrest of the 34-year-old male on Sunday evening,” Maswanganye said.

The man appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court on Monday and the case was postponed for a formal bail application.

Maswanganye said that the acting station commander, Warrant Officer Botties Botma, applauded the police members for their commitment in tracing the suspect and also thanked the community members for coming forward with the information.
