“Even the rain could not stop the West Rand law-enforcement agencies,” a statement from the Kagiso Police’s spokesperson, Captain Solomon Sibiya read.
The Kagiso Detectives units, Mogale City Traffic Department, Rural Safety, Counterfeit Unit, District Crime Intelligence Unit and police patrollers were out and about from 4am until very late on Thursday 5 December. They all formed part of a O Kae Molao Safer Festive Season operation that was conducted in Kagiso last week.

The operation was led by the West Rand District Commissioner, Major General Kekana and the West Rand District Visible Policing (Vispol) commander, Brigadier Mashadi Selepe.
The statement said that 18 J534 fines were issued to spaza shops for selling counterfeit goods, expired food, not complying with the Liquor Act 59 of 2003 and section 2 (1) of the Second-hand Dealers and Pawnbrokers Act 73 of 2003.

The value of the J534’s that were issued amounts to R23 500, the statement read.
They also made three arrests for dealing in liquor without a valid licence, and confiscated 147 000 litres of liquor.
Other arrests included possession of dagga, possession of nyaope, possession of a Mandrax tablet, possession of livestock, malicious injury to property (MITP), assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) and six undocumented people.

“Detectives also made their presence felt when they were tracing wanted suspects of domestic-related crimes, contact crimes, property-related and crimes against women and children,” Sibiya said.
“Though our successes were not what we anticipated, considering the weather conditions, you did well and you are all appreciated for your commitment and dedicated efforts,” Kekana told everyone involved.
