Police arrested four suspects aged between 23 and 26 last week for a hijacking that took place on Christmas Day in 2017.
According to a statement by the Kagiso Police, the victim alleged that on that day, at about 6am, he and a friend were sitting in his vehicle that was parked on St Lawrence Street, Swanieville when a group of unknown people suddenly appeared.
The victim tried to lock the door, but he was prevented from doing so. One of the men drew a knife and threatened the victim. His accomplices started pick-pocketing the victim and took an undisclosed amount of cash.
The thug with the knife then stabbed the victim in the lower back, and he and his accomplices sped off in the victim’s white Golf. The victim was later taken to hospital for treatment and he eventually reported the matter to the Kagiso Police.
Police launched a manhunt for the group of hijackers driving in the Golf, but it wasn’t until last week that the Kagiso Detectives received information that led to the apprehension of four suspects.
Brigadier Themba Maduna applauded his members for working tirelessly and showing good intentions to reduce violent crimes, including hijackings.
“This is an indication that no one can hide from the long arm of the law,” said Maduna.
A case docket of hijacking has been opened at Kagiso Police, and all four suspects are facing charges.
