Delay in daily Covid-19 stats due to ‘data harmonisation’

'The team is currently validating the data for recoveries' – Gauteng Provincial Government.

The delay in the release of daily Covid-19 statistics is due to a data harmonisation process.

Over the past weekend Gauteng Provincial Government explained on their Twitter page that, “As part of ensuring the reliability of the statistics to the public, Gauteng Department of Health from time to time audits its data.

“This is part of the data harmonisation process. The team is currently validating the data for recoveries and as such we will not be releasing today’s (2 August) daily stats.”

Gauteng Provincial Government’s last breakdown and update was on 1 August.

As at 31 July, the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Rand West City stood at 2 917. A total of 2 138 people have recovered so far.

Mogale City and Merafong City, which are also part of the West Rand District, have had 6 001 and 2 469 cases respectively. There are 91 unallocated cases in this District as well.

Mogale City and Merafong City have seen 4 027 and 1 859 recoveries respectively. The total number of Covid-19 cases reported in the West Rand District as at 31 July was 11 478, with 168 deaths and 8 024 recoveries. There were 204 new cases.

In the neighbouring City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality Region C, which comprises Roodepoort, the number of confirmed cases as at 31 July stood at 9 600, with 6 645 recoveries.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng was standing at 175 272, with 112 248 recoveries and 2 034 deaths.
