VIDEO: Pipeline project set to cause road closure in Wentworth Park

Early in December Wentworth Street will be closed for an undetermined period.

If you drive along Albertina Sisulu Road through Wentworth Park you’ve probably noticed construction work being done on one corner.

Once you turn down that road the size of the operation becomes apparent. Most of Wentworth Street, about 300 metres in length, was dug up a few weeks ago. It’s still possible to drive on the one side of the road, but the many construction vehicles may slow you down.

The old underground pipeline which had been supplying the area with fresh drinking water is currently being dug up and replaced by a far larger pipe. This F49 pipeline runs from Krugersdorp to Randfontein, and Rand Water has awarded the tender to Delmon Mining and Civils, and Inyati InfraDev.

This project will benefit a large section of Krugersdorp as residents will see an increase in water supply, explained Councilor Christo Kotzé. But, he noted that some locals were unhappy with the consequences of the construction process saying, “Residents had many problems with the mud in their driveways”.

With some mediation between the parties involved, the driveways had been cleared as much as possible to allow residents access to their properties as usual. The noise, dust and machinery lining the road are some of the other problems, but are generally unavoidable.

Kotzé said Wentworth Park residents should take note that early in December Wentworth Street will be closed for an undetermined period. However, they will be able to exit and enter their properties on the street, and Albertina Sisulu Road can be accessed easily through other roads in the area.

Kabelo Tau from Delmon Mining and Civils was contacted on 13 November with questions regarding the pipeline. Tau undertook to forward the said questions to the provincial department overseeing the project. At the time of writing this article, the News is awaiting an official response.
