New youth centre of R4,5 million in honour of late Mayor

The R4,5 million centre was designed primarily to prepare the youth, from the foundation phase to the secondary school phase, to make informed career choices in the future.

The memory of Mogale City’s late and beloved former Mayor Naga Patrick Lipudi lives on in the town he left behind.

In celebration of his life, the Rand Water Foundation (RWF) decided to honour the late mayor by establishing a state of the art Career, Science and Resource Centre in Krugersdorp.

“The facility was birthed two years back during engagements between the RWF Board and the Mogale City Council,” explained RWF Chairperson, Mr Linda Mngomezulu.

“The late Councilor Naga Lipudi identified the need for a Career Guidance Centre in the West Rand District to benefit the youth of Gauteng as a whole. This world-class facility is now complete and was handed over to the Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) on Friday, 4 December for ongoing use by communities.”

The R4,5 million centre was designed primarily to prepare the youth, from the foundation phase to the secondary school phase, to make informed career choices in the future.

RWF General Manager, Ms Mohlatleho Sekoaila said, “Our agreement to establish the Naga Lipudi Career Science and Resource Centre was not a hard one at all. One of our values is ‘caring’ and this request spoke to this value because it allows us to help in advancing the quality of life in communities by improving access to knowledge and information, and educating the youth by exposing them to different career choices.”

This all forms part of Rand Water’s corporate social investment programme which aims to promote socioeconomic change and to advance the quality of life in communities.

Access to education is a gift that keeps giving and is also a key contributor to the creation of our future leaders. It is during times like these that we need to rally together for the better, and it would be unpatriotic of me not to acknowledge the leadership of the Gauteng Department of Education and the MCLM for allowing us to be part of this groundbreaking day,” Mohlatleho said lastly.
